Connect a broker with a read-only key
With a read-only key, Asterholm brings in your data from the broker and keeps itself up to date. The key can read, never trade or withdraw.
Step by step
- Go to Connect (the + Connect button at the top) and choose Connect your brokerage (read-only API).
- Choose your broker. Today it works with Interactive Brokers, eToro, Binance, Trading 212, Exante, Freedom24, Tastytrade, the crypto side of Robinhood, Bitso, Coinbase, Bybit, OKX and Indexa Capital.
- Open How to create the read-only key and follow the guide on your broker's website. Give it read permissions only.
- Paste the key (and the secret, if your broker gives one) and name the connection, for example «IBKR main».
- Click Test connection. When the test passes, click Save and import.
What you will see
- Read-only verified: we checked that the key cannot trade or withdraw. Permissions not verifiable: your broker does not let us check; make sure you gave it read access only.
- A bar with the import progress. You can leave the page: the import keeps going on its own.
- After that, the connection updates twice a day and only brings in what is new.
If your plan does not include key connections
You will see the card with a lock. You can upload your broker's statement, which works on every plan, or upgrade your plan.
Common problems and questions
- It says «That key can trade or withdraw».
- Asterholm only accepts read-only keys. Create a new key at your broker with the read permission only.
- It says the broker rejected the credentials.
- Check that you copied them in full, that they belong to your real account (not a practice account) and that the key is not revoked or expired.
- My broker asks for a list of allowed IPs.
- Leave the key without an IP restriction, or use the one shown in your broker's guide on the connection screen.
- Where is my key stored?
- Encrypted, and it is never shown again. If you delete it from Asterholm, revoke it at your broker too.
