How to see your full eToro portfolio: dividends, withholding and fees
By Asterholm TeamUpdated: 7 min read
eToro shows the profit on each position, but dividends, withholding tax and fees are spread across the history screen and the account statement. This guide covers what eToro charges, where each figure lives, how to create a read-only API key, how to export the statement to Excel and what Asterholm does with each part.
Why it's hard to see your whole eToro portfolio
eToro's Portfolio screen shows the value and profit or loss of each open position, including the ones you copy from other investors. What it doesn't summarise is everything else: total dividends received, how much was withheld, what you paid in currency conversion, withdrawals or overnight fees, and your real return given when you deposited.
eToro also keeps positions in US dollars. If you live in the UK, the eurozone or anywhere with another currency, your money went in as GBP or EUR, and your real result also depends on the exchange rate. And if you invest through other brokers too, the only way to see the whole thing is to bring all the transactions into one place.
What eToro charges (as of October 2026)
eToro's fees vary by country, eToro Club tier and asset type. This is the general picture from its fees page (↗) as of October 2026; check it before treating any figure as final.
- Currency conversion: depositing or withdrawing in a currency other than USD incurs a conversion fee that depends on your country, payment method and Club tier. There is no single figure.
- Withdrawals: a flat US$5 from the USD investment account (with a US$30 minimum withdrawal). Withdrawals from local-currency accounts are free.
- Stock commission: eToro lists a US$1 or US$2 fee when opening and when closing a stock position, depending on your country and the exchange.
- Overnight fees: charged on CFDs and leveraged positions for each night they stay open, with weekends counted three times. Unleveraged stocks, ETFs and crypto do not pay them.
- Crypto: a 1% fee on buys and sells, with volume-based discounts on some Club tiers.
- UK stamp duty (SDRT): 0.5% when buying UK shares.
You deposit the equivalent of US$1,000 from a GBP bank account.
If your conversion fee were 1% (an example; yours may differ): US$10.
Credited to the investment account: US$990.
If you later withdraw from the USD account: a flat US$5, plus any conversion back to your currency.
In the account statement, conversion shows up as a conversion fee and overnight charges as an overnight fee (or rollover and weekend fee). Asterholm separates them on the Costs page: conversion counts as currency exchange and overnight charges as financing. UK stamp duty counts as a transaction tax.
Where to find dividends and withholding tax on eToro
Dividends are credited as cash and appear in your portfolio history, but the withholding detail lives in the account statement. Downloaded as Excel, its Dividends sheet has one row per payment with the net dividend received, the withholding rate applied and the amount withheld, all in USD.
| Date | Instrument | Net received | Rate | Withheld | Gross (Asterholm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-03-10 | Company A (US) | US$34 | 15% | US$6 | US$40 |
| 2026-06-16 | Company B (US) | US$51 | 15% | US$9 | US$60 |
eToro shows what you received: 34 + 51 = US$85.
Asterholm adds the withholding back to record the gross: 85 + 15 = US$100.
The withholding (US$15) is kept as a separate record, so you can see gross and net.
For a resident of a country with no US tax treaty, the default 30% would apply: US$30 withheld on that US$100.
The rate depends on the company's country, your tax residence and the tax treaty that applies. To see the rate for your country, try the dividend withholding calculator. Rules differ: for your tax return, check with eToro or a tax adviser.
Two ways to connect eToro: read-only API and statement
eToro has a public API with read-only keys, which Asterholm uses on paid plans. It reads your open positions (copy trading included) and your closed trades, and refreshes on its own twice a day, at around 02:30 and 12:00 UTC.
On the first sync Asterholm asks the API for your whole history. If eToro only returns the last year, you will see a warning: the full statement covers the rest.
If you'd rather not use the API, the statement alone works too and fits the Free plan (one broker, 12 months of history). The difference is that your data updates when you upload a new statement, not automatically. See the plans and the eToro page.
How to create a read-only API key on eToro
- On eToro (web), go to Settings → Trading → API Key Management and click Create New Key.
- Name it (for example, Asterholm), choose the Real environment and tick only Read permission. Do not tick Write. Optionally add an expiry date and an IP allow-list.
- Confirm with the SMS code and copy both keys: the public one (API key) and the user one (User key).
- Paste them into Asterholm and click Test connection.
When testing the connection, Asterholm checks the key's permissions. If it has write permission, it is rejected: with a read-only key nobody can place trades or withdraw money. If all is well, you will see a message confirming the key is read-only.
How to export your eToro account statement
- On eToro, go to Portfolio, click the history icon (the clock), then the settings gear → Account statement.
- Choose the full date range, from when you opened the account to today.
- Download as Excel (.xlsx).
- Upload it to Asterholm: if you already connected the API, to that same connection.
The file has several sheets. Asterholm uses three: Account Activity, Closed Positions and Dividends.
What Asterholm reads from the eToro statement
| Sheet | What is recorded | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Account Activity | Deposits, withdrawals, position openings and interest | Performance (XIRR) |
| Account Activity | Withdrawal, conversion and overnight fees | Costs |
| Account Activity | UK stamp duty (SDRT) | Costs |
| Account Activity | Crypto sent out of eToro | Position outflow |
| Closed Positions | Buy at open and sell at close (amount plus profit) | Performance |
| Dividends | Gross dividend plus separate withholding | Dividends |
Each transaction is then converted to your base currency (USD, GBP, EUR and others) at that day's rate, and the average cost of each holding includes fees. The Dividends page lets you switch between gross and net and see upcoming payments with estimated withholding based on your residence; the Costs page (Pro plan) projects how much those costs drag over 10 and 20 years.
Limits worth knowing
- Everything in USD: statement amounts are read as dollars, the currency eToro keeps positions in.
- Leveraged positions: recorded as an asset of type 'other', not as the underlying share, because they are not the same as owning it.
- Short positions: skipped, as with the API.
- Stock splits: split rows in the activity sheet are not applied. If one of your stocks split, check the quantity and fix it with a manual transaction if needed.
- No holdings snapshot in the file: the statement doesn't list what you hold today, so holdings are rebuilt from the transactions. With the API connected, open positions come in directly.
With everything together, Asterholm calculates XIRR (money-weighted, with at least 90 days of history) and annualized TWR. Why they won't match eToro's figure is explained in why your broker shows a different return. If you also use another European broker, see the Trading 212 guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does eToro's API include my dividends?
No. As of October 2026, eToro's public API provides open positions and closed trades, but not deposits, withdrawals, dividends or cash. For those, upload the Excel account statement to the same connection.
Is it safe to give Asterholm an eToro API key?
Use a key with Read permission only. Asterholm checks the permissions on connect and rejects keys with Write, so it cannot trade or withdraw money.
Where can I see withholding tax on my eToro dividends?
In the Excel account statement, Dividends sheet: each payment shows the net received, the withholding rate and the amount withheld.
If I upload the statement with the API connected, are trades duplicated?
No. Trades arriving through the API and through the file are recognised as the same and stored once.
Why do my leveraged positions show as 'other'?
Because a leveraged position is not the same as owning the share. Asterholm records it as an asset of type other; short positions are skipped.
